Glyn Mathias

NB: This is an online event

Glyn Mathias is a print and broadcasting journalist of over thirty years' standing. He was a lobby correspondent at Westminster for thirteen years; is the former Political Editor of ITN and BBC Wales, and was the Electoral Commission's Commissioner for Wales (2001–2008). Behind a dedicated political and broadcasting life lies a heritage deeply rooted in the poetry, literature and cultural life of Wales.

His Father was the Poet and Author Roland Mathias and in 2005, under the auspices of the Brecknock Society and Museum Friends Glyn established The Roland Mathias Poetry Prize which is awarded annually with the winning Poet giving a reading from their award winning work in Brecon, Glyn's home-town.

'A Last Respect' (Seren) is a celebration both of the prize-winning books and a commentary on Roland's own work - the first time such a volume has been conceived. It includes the Poetry of Owen Sheers, Tiffany Atkinson, Rhian Edwards and Robert Minhinnick amongst all literary luminaries; and with an introduction by Jane Aaron and afterword by Daniel G Williams all combine to make this an essential volume for lovers of Poetry not just from Wales but everywhere.

We are thrilled to have Glyn join us for this our latest Bleddfa 'Conversation'. We will also be joined by Chris Meredith and Daniel G Williams – the evening promises to be a fascinating discussion about Welsh Poetry past, present and future – we do hope you will join us.

'No better way, perhaps, to salute the passionate commitment of Roland Mathias in transforming he reputation of Welsh poets writing in English than through the poetry he enabled. I, among many, have a career in literature to thank him for.” – Gillian Clarke.

Our monthly Conversations With Series runs each third Thursday of each month at 6pm.
